Om bhurbhuvah svah; Tatsaviturvarenyam bhargo devasya dhimahi; Dhyio yo nah pracodayat.

 

Meaning

 

Om =               God

Bhur =             Giver of Life

Bhuvah =        The destroyer of all kinds of miseries

Svah =             Form of pleasure and bestower of happiness

Tat =               That

Savituh =        The creator of entire world

Varenyam =    Worth acquiring

Bhargah =       Of the pure form

Devasya =       Oh God

Dhimahi =       Let us meditate

Dhiyah =         Intellect

Yah =              Who to

Nah =              Of ours

Pracodayat =   May inspire (for good deeds)

 

O God, the Giver of life, Remover of pains and sorrows, the Bestower of Happiness and the Creator of the Universe.  Thou are the most luminous, pure and adorable.  We meditate on thee.  May thou inspire and guide our intellect in the right direction.
